Encompassing some of Australia's finest cool climate regions, the Limestone Coast is the place to watch. Showing the elegant structure you'd expect from the Old World but with a touch more ripeness, this is a top notch and full flavoured Merlot.
As you might expect from the name, the Limestone Coast lies close to the ocean and benefits from the cooling effects of coastal breezes. In addition, this region once lay under the sea (a mere 15 million years ago) and the billions of fossils left behind make up the famous limestone bedrock of this region - forming top terroir, especially for reds. The grapes for Fossilbed were grown by Geoff Hardy - a member of the renowned Thomas Hardy family. In 1980 he branched out with fellow viticulturalist Ian Leask, purchasing their first vineyard in the McLaren Vale. He now consults for many properties, not only in Australia but even in Frankrike and Italy. His full flavoured, smooth Merlot is a top wine to enjoy with garlicky roast lamb or beef.
