Praised by fine wine expert Robert Parker for its 'gorgeously ripe, inexpensive, fruit-driven reds', Toro is certainly a region to watch! This example from the award-winning Sanz family is bursting with exuberant ripe, cherry fruit.
Tucked away in a remote corner of western Spanien, Toro is a historic, overwhelmingly rural region known for its bold red wines. The DO was only created in 1987, but Tempranillo , known locally as Tinto de Toro , has been grown here for centuries. The region'smany dedicated and ambitious producers are keen to get a wider market for their wines , so for now they offer great value. The Sanz family have been growers in next door Rueda since 1870, but have recently branched out into Toro. They take an unashamedly modern approach to winemaking , their cellar master, Ricardo Sanz, having gained valuable experience in Chile, Argentina and Australia. This Tempranillo is delicious sipped solo and makes a fine partner to sauced chicken or pork dishes.
