Roroa Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Move over Marlborough, the next most fashionable spot for Sauvignon could soon be Hawke's Bay if this dazzling fresh white is anything to go by. Vines were first planted in Hawke's Bay in 1851 by Marist priests from Lyon, which makes it the country's oldest wine region. Its speciality is small production, quality wines, usually from family estates, and Roroa is a textbook example. It shares the same ocean freshness as Sauvignon from Marlborough, but being from the warmest spot in New Zealand you have a riper and creamier style. And it's all the more concentrated in the excellent, lower yielding 2015 vintage. This a delicious drop to enjoy on its own or with exotic foods. Yes, think spicy Thai cuisine and bright, crunchy, vegetable dishes.
