The classic southern French wine region of Corbières is 'the most important appellation of the Languedoc, producing excitingly dense, herby reds' (Oxford Companion to Wine). None more so than the triple Gold medal winning La Croix des Cabustines.
In the early days, the success of Tony Laithwaite'swine business was built on an extraordinary range of great value southern French reds. And even today the region'sa rich source of ,spicy, opulent reds that over deliver on every level, says our Buyer Beth. La Croix des Cabustines is one of her favourites. This rich, ripe gem is from the fantastic 2010 vintage and managed to swipe aside the competition to take three Gold medals in local competitions. The vineyards lie on stony, herb strewn terraces between Narbonne and Carcassonne, which keep the vines thirsty and force them to dig deep for water. Grenache, Syrah and Carignan yield intense blackberry and cassis flavours with silken tannins. An ideal wine for cassoulet or char-grilled beef
