Merlot is gaining ground in Spanien as more people come to appreciate its irresistible charms. The vineyards, at up to 600 metres above sea level, lie 30 miles in from the coast, leaving behind the bustling seaside town of Valencia where the good people of Madrid flock in the summer for relaxation.
