An hour or so along the coast from Marlborough, Nelson is a stunningly beautiful region famous for its extraordinary wines – none more thrilling than those from Brightwater Vineyards. Named after Lord Rutherford of Nelson (the ‘father’ of nuclear physics), this is their premium cuvée. The grapes, a special selection from the Hope Plains, were harvested in several individual picks, each at different levels of ripeness. The winemaker fermented each batch separately combining them to produce a wine that shows all the nuances of flavour Sauvignon lovers adore.Lord Rutherford is wonderfully concentrated and complex, with gooseberry, mango and lime flavours vying for attention. Serve chilled with lemon chicken, crab cakes or seared scallops.
