Viognier may be the prized grape of the northern Rhône's Condrieu, but it also thrives south of there. Buyer Robin discovered this parcel in picturesque Ventoux ' wonderfully aromatic with floral hints and exotic fruit balanced by stony freshness.
Frankrike'sVentoux region, close to the beautiful Mont Ventoux, and not far from the Med either, lies a little higher in altitude than the rest of the southern Rhône that encircles it. Consequently its wines, red and white, tend to have a fresh, minerally edge to them. Viognier was traditionally grown only in the northern Rhône, but when you taste this terrific, peach and blossom scented white you may well wonder why. It'sfrom a winery founded in 1924 that has since been modernised and adopted eco-friendly methods. With vineyards up to 500 metres high, it'sno surprise this wine has a streak of citrus freshness to complement its classic peach and exotic spice. All fruit unfettered by oak, this white is ideal with chicken or creamy fish pie.
