Les Raclets Fleurie 2011

Fleurie lies between Moulin à Vent and Chiroubles, its vineyards lying on the east-facing slopes of the village'sfamous hill. The region'spink granite soils are believed to be partly responsible for the fine aromatic qualities of the wines.This single vineyard red is from the Cave de Fleurie which, for 40 years, was run by Marguerite Chabert , the first woman to head a wine co-operative in Frankrike. Indeed, the cellar owes its existence to the women of Fleurie. They maintained the vineyards during the First World War and then afterwards as well to pool resources during difficult economic times. Silken textured and with pretty red fruits, Les Raclets makes a great match for slow roasted belly pork, chicken pie or pan fried sweetbreads.
