Although a second wine, Le Clarence benefits from the same treatment throughout as Château Haut-Brion. It is grown on the same land, profits from the same planting and harvest techniques, and has the advantage of the same rigorous selection and thoroughness in vinification as the Grand Vin. As Robert Parker notes, "The second wine, the 2009 Le Clarence de Haut-Brion, is almost as large a cuvée as the Grand Vin... the wine is full-bodied with the minerality offered by this terroir as well as plenty of sweet tannins. This is the finest second wine Haut-Brion has produced since the astonishing 1989 Bahans-Haut-Brion."
