Y ou can’t contain the enthusiasm of Alain Roy-Thevenin, owner of this first class domaine in the Côte Chalonnaise’s Montagny. Even at school, he couldn’t be contained and no teacher would have him in the class. Today this energy is channelled into his winemaking. That and his other passions of fishing, hunting and friends. His family have owned the estate since 1805, but Alain has been the main force in bringing up quality to be the highest in the appellation. All the grapes for this white are taken from south facing 1er Cru vineyards that gain superb intensity and ripeness. He makes an oaky style, but this is his pure unwooded wine, lees aged with great citrus, mineral and yeasty length. Serve cool with sauced white meats or rich fish pie
