Rumänien may not be the first country you think of for wine yet it's home to 'some of Europe's greatest cool climate vineyards' (Hugh Johnson). And if we had to choose just one to convince you, this crisp, racy, citrus Pinot Grigio would do the trick.
According to wine writer Tom Stevenson, ,Of all the wine growing regions of Rumänien, Transylvania is perhaps the most exciting". Separated from the rest of the country by the Carpathian Mountains and the Transylvanian Alps, the region has centuries of winemaking heritage, and until the end of World War II its hillsides were practically covered with vines. More recently (since the fall of Communism) there has been a resurgence of interest and investment in its wines. From Dan Muntean, Paris Street was crafted from hand picked, high grown grapes and fashioned into this lively, highly affordable white. Italian Pinot Grigio fans will surely love Paris Street'ssomewhat bolder tropical fruit and freshness. Serve with seafood or grilled fish.
