Sicilian wine has come into its own in the last decade or so. Its mountainous vineyards and proximity to the sea provide ideal conditions for ripe and racy dry whites. Mandriano is an innovative crisp blend of the local Grillo and Sauvignon Blanc.
This evocative Sicilian white is a collaboration between our old friend Giorgio Flessati , who makes wine throughout Italy and also in Chile'scutting edge Elqui Valley , and the talented team at Sicily's Colomba Bianca winery. Here they have combined Grillo , a grape once used mainly for Sicily'sfamous fortified wine Marsala but now prized in its own right for its lemony fruit and roundness , with international star Sauvignon Blanc adding delicate peachy notes and a refreshing zippy edge. Named after the local herdsmen who graze their sheep and goats on the high pastures near the vineyards, Mandriano has ripe fruit balanced by a lovely freshness. It'sdelicious as an apéritif or served with grilled fish, seafood starters or creamy pasta.
