Only the finest clarets may go under the Le Grand Chai label. This is a silky Bordeaux from the Right Bank's Côtes de Castillon, meticulously crafted by the Chai team. From 2011, it will delight you with its plump, creamy, red fruit tinged with oak.
With the magnificent 19th century Le Chai cellars positioned on the Dordogne river bank in Castillon, the team there is very well positioned to pick up the very finest parcels of Bordeaux grapes each vintage, particularly from the Côtes de Castillon. 2011 was a tricky vintage, but our head winemaker , the Haut-Brion trained Jean-Marc Sauboua , has an excellent network of contacts, who helped secure the finest fruit. As with the 2010, JMS sourced grapes from three top properties to obtain a fine balance of supple fruit, firm structure and depth, then vinified and barrel aged the wine for a year at Le Chai to ensure the ultimate in TLC. The result: silky red fruit claret with a wrap of oak , most attractive now and for a few years to come.
