One of the top Rioja houses in the 1960s (its 1964 Gran Reserva is still in great shape), Gómez Cruzado is back on stunning form. Part barrel fermentation gives this white a lovely richness and toasty vanilla edge, balanced by crisp citrus fruit.

Our Buyer Beth Willard was bowled over when she recently tasted through the wines at the Gómez Cruzado estate. They are clearly on form, as their Reserva was named 'Best Wine from Rioja' at this year's Wines of Spain awards. The estate was founded in 1886 in Rioja's Haro by the Mexican Duke of Moctezuma. Recent investment and fastidious attention to detail have brought Trophy winning success. Half the Viura grapes for this traditional white Rioja were fermented in French oak for five months, with the remainder left to mature on its fine lees. The result is a beautifully fresh and balanced wine with the aromas and flavours characteristic of the best Riojan aged Viuras. Delicious with paella or a saffron infused Spanish style fish stew.
