If you like Pinot Grigio, you'll love the citrusy fruit and almond complexity of Serra del Conte ' a young, fresh white from the oldest cellar in the Marches. Made from a local speciality, it offers intense yet subtle fruit and great freshness.
If you've not tried Verdicchio before than prepare for a treat. 'One of Italy's finer white varieties' (Wine magazine), it performs at its best in the sloping vineyards of the Marches, producing wines with a lovely creamy texture and lemony zip. Serra del Conte is from Garofoli, the oldest family cellar in the region. Today it is run by Gianfranco and Carlo Garafoli, with Gianfranco managing the business side of things and Carlo, one of the most respected oenologists in the Marches, in charge of the cellar. The Verdicchio grapes were selected from the hills around the 'classico zone' Castelli di Jesi. This fine Italian white is made to be drunk young and fresh. Enjoy with simple fish or shellfish dishes ' spaghetti alle vongole perhaps.
