Beaujolais Côte de Brouilly cru has much charm, like a Saint Amour, yet structure and ageing potential like a good Morgon. Eric Pardon of Domaine Sigaux owns some of Beaujolais best vineyards and his vibrant red fruit 2012 really sings of summer.
Beaujolais' superb crus offer wines that range from vivid juicy red fruit to a more velvet heaven ' they make a 'delightful wine style you should not overlook if you view wine as something to be drunk and enjoyed' (Financial Times). And there's plenty of enjoyment here. Domaine Sigaux is 100% Gamay, hand harvested from 50 year old vines so flavour is deliciously concentrated. The granite rich soils (known as roche pourrie or 'rotten rock') of these hills add characteristic mineral quality to this fine Beaujolais from an 18th century estate owned by Eric Pardon. 2012 is a charming vintage producing wine of impressive colour and rich fruit. Superb now and with potential to age, this is a wine for white meats, duck or a pâté-style lunch.
