Ventoux lies in the southern Rhône Valley, close to Provence, and makes a pretty Rhône style with hints of mountain freshness. This Gold winner has delightful red fruit upheld by silky tannins. A very accessible appetising wine from a family domaine.
On the lower slopes of the ¿Giant of Provence¿, Mont Ventoux, the Rhône¿s native grapes ripen slowly to perfection in bright sunshine, cooling down at night as temperatures rapidly drop. This produces an attractive freshness in wines which balances the herbal, smoky bacon notes and ripe red fruits. The wine is a triple award winner using native Syrah, Grenache and old vine Carignan, all from the tiny family domaine of Julien Cornud. Monsieur concentrates on growing the grapes, then hands them over to the top winemaker at the nearby Châteauneuf cellar, Thierry Ferlay. He¿s done a great job coaxing out all the pretty red fruit upheld by silky, supple tannins and with a smoky, herbal overlay. Enjoy with white meats or a meaty fish like tuna.
