Pure Tempranillo with all the hallmark, velvety, strawberry flavours and aromatic hints of vanilla that have made Rioja a household name. Castillo del Ciego is an expert blend designed to achieve a benchmark style. The Murúa family has done it again!
From the cellar that gave us Barón de Barbón, Castillo del Ciego is Rioja in the style Riojans enjoy every day of the week, as they relax at the region'snumerous tapas and wine bars. The talent behind it is the young and dedicated Javier Murúa. His father Julián owns Bodegas Muriel (a winery his own parents originally established in 1926) in Rioja'ssuperior Alavesa district. We have a fabulous working relationship with the family, ensuring we get first refusal on their finest cuvées. The wine is a blend of vintages , young cuvées for all their exuberant fruit and older oak-aged vats for a touch of smoky vanilla complexity. Silky with soft, mellow flavours, this Rioja is great solo, with tapas and altogether very versatile with food.
