Rioja has been making wine for some 2000 years and was the first region of Spain to be granted DOC status. Bodegas Luis Cañas lies in the heart of Rioja's premium Alavesa. Their wines are so good, five of the seven 3-star Michelin restaurants in Spain feature them on their menus. Amaren is their top cuvée, made from the oldest vine grapes and commemorating Juan Luis Cañas' mother, Angeles. Today, Amaren wines are made in their new Bodegas Amaren, opened by Juan Luis in 2009.Aged two years in fine French oak, another five in bottle, Juan Luis' rare Reserva Amaren is remarkably rich, fragrant and smooth. Perfect with rack of lamb or a plate of charcuterie, perhaps with Serrano ham, chorizo sausages, Manchego cheese or a rich game dish.
