Les Dix Salmées is an exceptional Châteauneuf with unique complexity thanks to the property's wide range of grape varieties and terroir. Wonderfully mouthfilling and with lovely supple tannins, it is, as Robert Parker points out, 'disarmingly lush'.
Nalys is rare for many reasons, not least for growing all 13 Châteauneuf varieties, allowing the winemaker to select the best each vintage. With mention in local records as early as the 16th century, Nalys is one of the village's oldest estates. Its current fortunes however are due to Dr Philippe Dufays, who, after World War II, lead its quality renaissance. (Interestingly, Tony Laithwaite knew him, and longest serving Rhône winemaking friend André Roux was one of his disciples). For the 2011, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and a smattering of other varieties were fermented, blended and barrel aged. The wine's spicy brambly fruit and liquorice and black olive notes make it delicious with a gigôt d'agneau and Mediterranean roasted vegetables.
